William Moderal Patrick [1842-1903]

  William Moderal Patrick was born in Giles County, Tennessee, 8 July 1842, son of Thomas Washington Patrick and Janette "Jane" Gill, died 22 December 1903 in Unionville, Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in the Unionville Cemetery, Appanoose County, Iowa.
  He was married by the Rev. I. D. Sidwell at the home of Samuel Hardin in Taylor Township, Appanoose County, Iowa, 24 January 1867, to Elizabeth Jane Hardin, who was born in Scott County, IN, 29 March 1844, daughter of Samuel Hardin and Nancy McCalment, died 17 April 1906 in Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in the Unionville Cemetery, Appanoose County, Iowa.

  Four children were born of this marriage:
  1.  Minten E. Patrick was born 19 September 1868 in Appanoose County, Iowa, and died 20 August 1869 in Appanoose County, Iowa.
  2.  Ira Melzine Patrick was born 9 November 1869 in Poweshiek County, Iowa, died 9 September 1942 in Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in Eaton Cemetery, Unionville, Appanoose County, Iowa.  He married in Appanoose County, Iowa, 9 September 1891, Jennie Iantha Hunt, who was born 18 December 1870 near Unionville, Appanoose County, Iowa, daughter of Amblin Wyman Hunt and Lydia Martha Dukes, who died 28 April 1944 in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa and was buried in Eaton Cemetery, Unionville, Appanoose County, Iowa.  Six children were born of this marriage: Rhoda Estella Patrick, Martha Jane Patrick, Clyde Minten Patrick, Lora Geneva Patrick, Ward Taylor Patrick, and Florence Ruth Patrick.
  3.  Nancy Jeanette Patrick was born 27 February 1871 in Poweshiek County, Iowa, died 12 May 1956 in Unionville, Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in Eaton Cemetery, Unionville, Appanoose County, Iowa.  She married, first, 1 April 1889, Fred Buckmaster, and second, [----] McCuen.
  4.  James Laurance Patrick was born 12 May 1872, died 19 August 1945 at the Masonic Sanatarium in Bettendorf, Scott County, Iowa, and was buried in Unionville Cemetery, Appanoose County, Iowa.  He married 20 March 1901 Maud S. Crawley.  Two children were born of this marriage:  Brooks Patrick and Doris Patrick.

  William M. Patrick was born in Giles county, Tenn., July 9, 1842 and died at Unionville at 2 o'clock Dec. 2, 1903, aged 61 years 4 months and 23 days.
  He came with his father's family to Iowa in 1852 and married Elizabeth J. Hardin January 2, 1867.  He leaves a wife, two sons and one daughter.  His aged mother, four brothers, and four sisters survive him.
  He has lived in Unionville the past thirteen years.  He was a devout and consistent member of the Presbyterian church for many years. He served in Co. I, 3rd Iowa Cavalry four years, and was confined in the famous Andersonville confederate prison for six months and four days.  He was an active member of A. W. Miller G. A. R. Post.
  The funeral took place from the Presbyterian church and was conducted by Rev. W. R. Rolingson and the G. A. R. Post of which he was a member.  The floral tributes were pretty and abundant. 
  Mr. Patrick had the respect and love of all.  The funeral was largely attended, not all were able to obtain seats in the church.  The body was laid to rest in the north graveyard at Unionville.
